For hosted or cash bar, state law requires that wine and spirits be purchased through
the state control system, the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (UDABC).
UFS can purchase all liquor and wine on behalf of the Client, then all liquor becomes the
property of the Client. The Client may provide their own liquor, which must be purchased
at a UDABC store. The Client is responsible for the disposal of any remaining liquor at
the end of the event. Utah law prohibits the caterer from leaving the venue with any
leftover liquor.
For a cash bar the Client must obtain a "Single Event Permit" from the UDABC and
possibly other permits from municipalities where the event is taking place. Because the
UDABC meets only once a month to approve licenses and permits, it is important to
begin the application process two months prior to your event. Your sales representative
can provide you with the application.
UFS bills the Client at the current cost of the liquor or wine from the UDABC plus a set up
or handling charge.
