About Us

Our Company

UFS has continually and successfully been in operation for over 20 years.  In June of 1994, Robert Sullivan, a self-proclaimed ski bum from Vermont together with his wife, Susan, took a risk and purchased UFS.  It’s been a wild ride ever since!  They began their catering journey in a church kitchen and went on to win the esteemed contract at the Salt Palace Convention Center and South Towne Exposition Center.  Additionally, UFS expanded into an 18,000 sq ft custom-built kitchen and warehouse facility in North Salt Lake and purchased three state-of-the-art mobile kitchens to keep up with the growth in our off-premise catering business.

Robert attributes the company’s success to the dedication of his greatest asset, the employees. Together, the creative team strives to serve artfully presented cuisine made from the freshest ingredients with swift, efficient and most importantly pleasant and courteous service.  We enjoy what we do and it shows!

Outreach Program

Our outreach program provides employment opportunities for the mentally/physically challenged, individuals in recovery programs, retirees, youth groups and political refugees. Building self-confidence and believing in each individual’s potential and creative spirit starts from the top down. For example, we employ individuals from the TURN Community, an organization which advocates for people with developmental disabilities and offers community residential and day placements.  Our kitchen management team works with our challenged employees and their job coaches to match their skills, and schedule availability with the tasks at hand. The Arc of Utah, an organization which advocates for and alongside people with cognitive and intellectual and development disabilities and their families, awarded UFS “The Employer of the Year” in 2005.

Workplace Flexibility

UFS won the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility in 2006. The success of our “can do…make it so” philosophy depends on the dedication of our staff.  In an ever changing and extremely fast past work environment, employee attitudes can make or break an event.  To that end, providing flexibility in the workplace, profit sharing, 401k, health and dental benefits, employee service awards, employee of the month awards, bonuses, opportunities for advancement, seminars and national trade show opportunities and prize raffles builds company loyalty and boosts morale.  All of which create a vested interest by our management and hourly staff in the success of our catering company.
